Firelei Báez’s large-scale works on paper visualize mythical femini...

Firelei Báez’s large-scale works on paper visualize mythical feminine creatures, imagining the Ciguapa and others through oozing, faceless contortions and dissolving silhouettes. Out of a convergence of science fiction, anthropology, and diasporic identity formation, her works brim intensely with humor, formal rigor, and audacious fantasies of resistance. Báez is the recipient of the 2016 Chiaro Award at the Headlands Center for the Arts. Gallery Wendi Norris will present her exhibition Trust Memory Over History in Spring 2016.

Presented in partnership with Headlands Center for the Arts.
