Event begins at 7:15pm

Between 1973 and 1991, The Women's Building was a vital hub for the feminist art movement in Los Angeles. Among many other things, it was home to the Feminist Studio Workshop (FSW), which was the inspiration for Andrea Fraser's work "Men on the Line."

The artist and filmmaker Susan Mogul was a member of the FSW. At the Wattis Institute, she presents Comedy as a Backup, a talk and screening event featuring excerpts of her performances and performance-based videos made in the seventies and eighties that borrowed from the strategies of stand-up comedy and cabaret. Mogul’s work in this period often spoke to the financial situation of artists and the anxieties produced by a desire for recognition.

This event is organized by Tanya Zimbardo, assistant curator of media arts, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and is the fifth event in our year-long season about and around the work of Andrea Fraser. http://bit.ly/1OoNoMq
