2Fik is a French-born Quebecois artist of Moroccan heritage whose work playfully engages questions of identity and gender to discomfiting ends. 2Fik eases boundaries between propriety and scandal to suggest that identity is fractured and lost in translation. Defining himself as a Stateless person, his concept of self is informed by the multiple, hybrid identities he inhabits in order to "survive" in French, Moroccan, and Quebecois cultures.
Presented in partnership with Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US and the program Gender in Translation, a multidisciplinary, Franco-American operation, dedicated to questioning the notion of gender in the social sciences, philosophy, and artistic fields. Related programs are presented in collaboration with the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US (San Francisco Office) and the entire operation will take place between December 2015 and fall 2016, both in Berkeley and San Francisco.
