Samara Golden’s visually intoxicating installations take an M.C. Escher dive through Alice’s broken looking glass to restage the domestic with hand-built foam furniture and mylar guitars. In a stream-of-consciousness tactic to craft open-ended spaces, Golden incorporates divergent pop culture elements into intergenerational mash-ups of the past and future, constructed through sculpture, digital prints, audio, and video projection. Her resulting installations broadcast an eerie, disorienting image of the American family’s dark underbelly.
Presented in partnership with Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Golden’s solo exhibition at YBCA is on view March 11–June 19.
