Eleanor Criswell-Hanna, Ed.D., is Emeritus Professor of Psychology and former chair of the Psychology Department, Sonoma State University. She is the founding director of theHumanistic Psychology Institute (now Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center). Dr. Criswell-Hanna is on the faculty of Meridian University, Petaluma and is the editor of Somatics Magazine and Director of the Novato Institute for Somatic Research and Training. She is a licensed psychologist, biofeedback practitioner, and somatic educator, as well as the creator of Somatic Yoga and Equine Hanna Somatics.True social justice requires that people are able to experience relief from the physical and psychological trauma of their lives so that they can live fully. A key element in achieving social justice is assuring somatic wellbeing for all. It is a big task, but the field of somatics can contribute to social justice. This presentation will include the history of somatics, Hanna Somatic Education, somatics and trauma rehabilitation, somatics versus somatic psychotherapy, and somatics and social justice. The presentation will include an experience of Hanna Somatics.
