Primary and preventive care focused on the needs of transgender, trans*, lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, intersex, and questioning people and their allies.

Dr. Deutsch is the Clinical Lead at The Center of Excellence for Transgender Health and an Assistant Clinical Professor in The Department of Family & Community Medicine at The University of California - San Francisco.

Dr. Deutsch has a passion for providing sensitive, high quality, evidence based primary care for members of the LGBTQQIA community. Dr. Deutsch has provided primary and hormone care for over 1100 transgender individuals since 2007. Prior to her position at UCSF she has served as the Director of the Transgender Health Program at the LA Gay & Lesbian Center, which she helped found in 2009. She has a once/monthly consultation clinic at the UC-Berkeley Student Health Center (Tang Center), where she is part of a team which has developed transgender services at that facility. She has also consulted with numerous clinics and organizations on the development of transgender health services, and had a lead role in the development of the UCSF Primary Care Protocols for Transgender Care (Transhealth.UCSF.edu).

Outside of her clinical practice Dr. Deutsch is involved in several clinical and program research projects. She is the Clinical Lead for the UCSF-based technical assistance and evaluation center funded by HRSA (Transgender Women of Color), which is examining pilot interventions at 9 sites nationwide to improve linkage and retention in care for HIV+ transgender women of color. She has completed research on informed consent practices in transgender care, the use of electronic medical records for the collection of sexual orientation and gender identity data, the effects of hormones on cholesterol and blood pressure, and hormone levels relating to regimens and dosing.

Dr. Deutsch has appeared on Anderson Cooper and HuffPost live speaking about LGBT health issues, and has met with the Vice President of Peru to discuss transgender health needs.
